With its 12,000 acres, Goodwood is now world famous as one of England's most lively and fashionable country estates. Many sports are pursued that have over the centuries been the favourites of various Dukes of Richmond: these include horseracing, motorsport, flying and golf. The picturesque Goodwood Estate provides a glorious backdrop to the magnificent Regency House, which is still inhabited by the Earl and Countess of March and their young family.

A tour of the State Apartments offers visitors an unique insight into the history of Goodwood House, which has been the family home of the Dukes of Richmond for over 300 years. The experienced and knowledgeable guides, each with their own individual flair, provide memorable guided tours featuring the novelty of the Egyptian Dining Room, the luxury of the Yellow Drawing Room and the discreet French charm of the Tapestry Drawing Room. Whilst enjoying the wonderful collection of art, including world-renowned paintings by Canaletto and Stubbs, the guides illuminate the extraordinary lives of the Dukes of Richmond.

In 2005, the year of the bicentenary celebrations of the Battle of Trafalgar, an exhibition, running on open days all year focuses on this period. The Richmonds at War: Wellington, Napoleon and the Duchess of Richmond's Ball looks at events leading up to Napoleon's eventual defeat. Fascinating related items will be on show.

Goodwood is both modern and traditional. It is a delightful and extraordinary example of a working country estate in the 21st century. For further information please contact the Curator's Assistant (+44 (0)1243 755 048)
